A Mirror For Remembering is a major new virtual reality artwork by British contemporary artist Alex May that faces the urgent necessity to address the preservation of digital artefacts that form an integral part of our everyday lives and rapidly evolving culture.

The work uses new 3D digital scans of historical artefacts from the extensive collection of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, who commissioned the artwork, to create a series of virtual museums that challenge us to think about our cultural legacy for future generations.

What do we save in an age of big data, who should make these choices, and how will these choices alter the perception of culture for future generations?

How should native digital artefacts be integrated into physical museum collections or are Facebook, Apple, and Google the new librarians of our digital culture?

In this CAS online talk, Alex will introduce the artwork and discuss the processes and outcomes of the project.
