About the Talk

After several years of hanging around on the fringes of CAS, we recently joined the committee. As soon as we did we were asked to put on an exhibition and write a book about what we do — a guide to interactive art. Because we are not writers we decided to structure this around all the other people who have helped us make interactive art over the years, from the early experimental phases to what is now a successful full time practice.

We will discuss how we scaled up our project, the nuts and bolts of it. We will argue that, even if it doesn't seem to be about anything, interactive art is the best type of computer art. Perhaps it is the best because it isn't about anything? If you want you can also see interactive art as a love story — between humans and technology. It has also been our life.

About the Exhibition

BCS Moorgate is not a suitable venue for interaction so you'll have to make do with 16 photographs from the book of other people interacting with our work. These document our progress over the years. In the corridor is Our First World — a film diptych stretched into an octych contrasting our first loves: home video and home computing. There may also be an ambient interactive in the coffee room.

The talk will be followed by a reception and an opportunity to view the exhibition.
