About the Exhibition

Interactive Art is the Best explores the work of Genetic Moo — artists Nicola Schauerman and Tim Pickup — whose collaborative practice has been at the forefront of interactive digital art in the UK for over two decades. Through a selection of photographs and printed works, the exhibition documents projects that have invited audiences to engage directly with playful, participatory artworks made through creative coding and digital technologies.

Featuring photographs and printed works from across Genetic Moo's career, this 20 Print Exhibition with additional video and live events, traces the development of their practice from early experimentation to large-scale commissions presented in galleries, museums and public spaces. Together, the works reveal how interaction, collaboration and curiosity have remained central to their approach, capturing the many ways audiences have become part of the artwork itself.

The London exhibition was organised by Genetic Moo, with support of fellow CAS members David Upton and Geoff Davis. The Leicester showing of the exhibition is presented in collaboration with Interact Digital Arts and the Computer Arts Archive, a research project based in Leicester and run by Dr Sean Clark.

The exhibition accompanies the publication of Interactive Art with Genetic Moo, commissioned by the Computer Arts Society, and offers an insight into the ideas, processes and collaborations that have shaped their practice.

About the Artists

Genetic Moo

Genetic Moo is a collaboration between creative coding couple Nicola Schauerman and Tim Pickup. Together, they create large-scale interactive installations for museums and galleries which encourage experimentation and play. Their touring exhibitions include: Magic Place, an ever-changing digital environment inspired by the magic of home computing and the golden age of video games, and Microworld, a digital ecosystem filled with creatures which respond to the audience. These large-scale exhibitions are produced by KitMapper. They have received numerous grants, commissions and awards and their work has featured in museums and galleries all over the UK.
